Spires in the sand

Here is a background test for the comic I'm looking to construct for before Thought Bubble in November. I'm tying to create interesting moods and to colour with only gradients- Its proving challenging but I feel I'm getting a little closer to where I want to be with it. Please let me know what you think :)

ATCards.

Ok so I'll be sharing a table with a talented artist and a good friend of mine ( Lee Stevenson http://crouchingbrushhiddenpencil.blogspot.co.uk/ ) at ThoughtBubble in Leeds on the 23rd-24th of November. Now although I'll be taking along plenty originals and prints of my work I thought it would be a cool touch to sell original art trading cards done with markers and liners on Bristol board- here are some examples. let me know what you think! Also here are the markers I've been using- Tria grey set- great markers, I love the fine nib on them, really versatile

''Pick and Choose, Sit and Lose''

I'm gonna be taking a few of the sketches from from my Langton pad and taking them a bit further- if nothing comes from it then nothing lost right? right?? well whatever! lets see how it goes!!

Here's the first one- EL 'MECH'-I-CAN. I'll post all three stages to show my process. I'm still trying new stuff in my work- I've been looking a lot at both James Stokoe and  John Kenn Mortensen and I think it shows- both great artists! check them out !!

'Rhino bot'

Between projects I asked a friend what he thought I should draw seeing as though I had a bit of creative block- he said 'Rhino Bot'- I drew this :)

Here are some pages from my Langton sketchbook, i like where these are going- they're all drawn straight in pen. The pen is great to use. although the grain on the paper is really coarse and the pen is really delicate they strangely work well together.

Hell Boi'

A quick sketch done on my break at work on some 'borrowed' printer paper. Quickly painted when i got home. I wanted hell boy to look different with a tattoo sleeve instead of a breeze block for a fist
- Why do we say borrow?- we never mean it...

Robots and Watercolour Pads

My partner always reminds me that I never fully finish sketchbooks, and the argument that I'm heading towards minimalist tendencies doesn't hold up. So as a result she returned home one day with a Daler Rowney A5 'Langton' pad demanding that I fill every page. Around the same time I was treated to an early birthday present which was a lovely Faber-Castell TG1-S. I love to draw with fine liners and this was a rather fine example of one. I've combined the two, chose a rough subject matter- robots- and off I scribble.

'Flash Bang'

Here are some pieces I created in Adobe Flash. If you know Illustrator it makes Flash a lot more approachable, its a great program and you can use it for so much. kinda like a ruff n' ready Illustrator. Hope you like!

3D On Hold

Due to the incredibly steep learning curve involved in learning Maya i have had to put it on a back burner for a while- I will no doubt return to it though. Probably with a different character to work from, the robot before this was slightly off in each view- making it very difficult to make a coherent model. I've quite a lot of 2D work I'd like to crack on with regardless. Onwards and upwards.
